I've had this wedding marked on the calendar for what seems like forever. I first met Danielle at her best friend Stacy's wedding a few years ago, where at the time Danielle was the maid of honor. It was no surprise to me that when it came time for Danielle to get married Stacy was at her side as well. Steffanie and I really enjoyed sharing in Dave & Danielle's day of celebration and the uniting of two families.
Danielle and Dave met at an Alpha Phi Omega conference in Fairfax, Virginia. Both had enjoyed a full day of workshops and networking on Saturday complete with a banquet at night. Neither of them were that thrilled to go to a Region 3 staff meeting on Sunday morning, but when Dave just happened to sit next to Danielle that morning, there was definitely a spark. Dave not wanting to mess things up, took a little longer than Danielle would have liked in responding to her on Facebook. (Is that the 2 day rule or the 3?) That all changed when they had their first date at a New Years party hosted by their mutual friends Tom and Jess. They continued their long distance relationship for over a year with many long Skype sessions and drives to meet up whenever possible. It was at one of Dave's curling competitions that Danielle first met Dave's friends and teammates. (Yes, curling, that thing we are all obsessed with every four years at the winter Olympics!) His teammates of course immediately approved.
Both Dave and Danielle share their love of wine and literature. Many of their dates involved trips to winery's from Connecticut to Maryland. It should be no surprise then how Dave decided to propose. Taking a bottle of Shades of Risque, one of Danielle's favorite wines, Dave printed personal labels designed to resemble the cover and dust jacket of a book and gave it to her (followed by a beautiful family heirloom ring seen here) just as he finished making a home-cooked dinner of tilapia, wild mushroom risotto, and cheesecake. Although Danielle isn't big on surprises, she was pretty happy about this one!
Danielle went against the traditional full length dress. She wanted to party, and didn't want the hassle of a long train hindering her dance moves!
Of course no wedding would be complete without something borrowed. Danielle's mother Patricia transformed her own wedding dress into this beautiful hand bag.
For anyone who wants to enjoy at least part of their cocktail hour, a first look is the perfect option. We set Dave up at the top of the hill, just steps away from where they would exchange their vows. I was able to get shots of Dave with Danielle approaching, and Steff was able to get the side looks when they saw each other for the first time. If there is any value in a second shooter, its for first looks.
Before the ceremony, Danielle's nephew, Jacob, steals the show while grabbing a kiss from the bride to be. Check out those shoes!
This guy never stopped smiling! If there were any pre wedding jitters here, you would never know.
Maybe he got his nerves from his father, who was also wearing a smile most of the day.
I'm not gonna lie, when they told me Tom Foley was marrying them, I was picturing someone else.
Stacy standing at Danielle's side wearing a one shoulder strap lavender gown from David's Bridal.
In keeping with her librarian roots, each table featured as a center piece a different novel.
Both Stacy and Jeremy delivered funny & touching speeches.
I love that Dave is inadvertently mirroring Danielle's expression!
Yes! The father of the bride can play a mean air guitar.
One of my favorite shots of the day. These are the candid moments that are the most special for me. You don't plan on these ones, all you can do is keep your eyes open and hope that you can capture the moment when it happens. Such a great slow dance candid of the parents of the groom dancing along side the newlyweds. I love everything about this shot, from the brokah light in the background, the dramatic natural light of the room and the genuine expressions on father and sons face.
Thank you so much to everyone involved in making this day such a success and the cooperation of not only Dave & Danielle, but to Jeremy and Stacy, and both sides of the family for all the help you provided to Steffanie and I. I hope you all enjoyed this small sampling of photos. If you would like more information or would like to chat about booking me for a wedding or family photos you can contact me here.
